This Is One Of My Favorite Traditional Fruit Pie Recipes
I made a Peach Pie! Iโm sure you could tell that from the title and all, but Iโm kind of excited about it!
Itโs hard to believe, but this is my first real pie pie Iโve posted on the blog. I have a Strawberry Cream Pie, which is fruity, but not the same kind of traditional pie that I think of when I think of a true fruit pie. Most of the other pies I’ve made are either frozen or custard based. So yea, I pat myself on the back for this one. Feels like a milestone and accomplishment. ๐
I donโt know about you, but with school starting so soon, it feels like summer is coming to a quick end. And not like a kidโs summer – thatโs definitely ending – but like the warm weather. I know we still have a couple months of it left, but Iโm already trying to enjoy the remaining fruit deals while they last. I want ALL THE FRUIT!
My dad is a huge fan of fruit pies and cobblers. He would easily take a slice of pie over a cupcake (one way that we differ). His mom used to make them a lot when they were growing up I guess, so he is always drawn to them. My mom isnโt much of a baker and I donโt think Iโve ever seen her make a pie. Nor would she have any desire to (no offense mom ๐ ). So Iโve been looking forward to making this for my dad – and peaches are his fave.
Peeling Fresh Peaches For This Pie Takes Time
I wonโt lie to you, peeling the peaches is the worst part. You definitely have to want to make this pie because of all the peeling. Itโs not just peach pie, itโs a love pie. Why? Because if you donโt love the person youโre making it for (which could totally be yourself, I know I love myself enough to make me a pie), then you wonโt do it.
The hubs actually helped me peel the peaches. He was pretty pumped about the pie too. Brownie points right there. He got into figuring out the best way to do it and trying to demonstrate it for me. Goofball.
Is Peach Pie Easy To Make?
However, once the peaches are peeled, this pie is pretty easy to throw together. Especially if you use a Pillsbury pie crust, like I did. Itโs mostly combining ingredients and throwing it into a pie crust. I made a lattice top because itโs so pretty, but you donโt have to.
It’s Important To Freeze The Pie Before Baking
What you do need to do though is not forget the step where you freeze the pie before putting it into the oven to bake. I forgot the first time, and my filling bubbled over and it ended up not looking as nice as I would have liked. Still tasty, just not super pretty. Once I remembered to freeze it though, it turned out beautifully! And delicious!
My Whole Family Loved This Peach Pie
My dad absolutely LOVED this pie. โJust like Ma-Maw made it,โ he said. He couldnโt resist it – morning, noon or night. I get my sweet tooth from him and it really doesn’t matter what time of day it is.
The hubs loved it too! It was an all around hit for all peach pie lovers and pretty solid for my first fruity pie. I see more in my future.

Recipe modified from Southern Living Magazine.
Fresh peaches are not usually available in the market. I have in my freezer a bagful of frozen wedged peaches. Can I use this? Do I defrost it first so my pie is not watery? Do I need to add flour so it wonโt be watery or soupy?
Fresh peaches are usually available this time of year, but you can certainly use frozen peaches. I will defrost the peaches and drain them first. The recipe already includes flour. I hope you enjoy it!
I made this pie just today after peach picking. I did ย make the pie crust from scratch. This pie is hands down the best pie I ever had. I love all of the things you bake and they are always my go to recipes for sweets and treats thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Hello! This looks soooo delicious ! I can’t wait to try it. Next question ..can I use frozen peaches ?? I need to make peach pie for a funeral this coming Friday. Hope you can reply before then.thanks !????
Frozen peaches would probably be ok. They are definitely going to give you a pie with a softer texture. You’d also want to be sure to fully defrost them and pat them dry so you don’t add too much more moisture.
Hey There! Thanks for the great recipe. I’m a first time pie maker and this turned out wonderfully. I loved using this recipe so much that I made a youtube video using it! Check it out if you’d like to! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CobAI91vUiM
SUCH a cute video! Seriously, love the editing! ๐ Glad you enjoyed the pie!
I am 16 and I attempted this recipe when I was 15. It was my first e that I have attempted and it came out amazing, considering it was my first pie. Super easy to follow and delicious over all.
Hello there. Great recipes and stories. My mom was known as The Pie Lady and I grew up being her helper so I peeled my share of peaches and apricots and apples. I thought I’d share a little tip I learned from her. When making stone fruit pies (peach, apricot, cherry etc.)she always added a drop or two of almond extract. She said it enhanced the flavor of these fruit pies but all I know is they tasted delicious! I also use the premade pie crusts. Hers were always perfect and flaky, mine not so much. She also would make extra fruit pie filling and freeze it in pie plates so it would be in the shape of the pie. We would have peach or apricot pie at Christmas! Yummy!
You should be excited about this pie! It’s gorgeous! I love the little sugar crystals on top, and I bet it taste absolutely out of this world! ๐
Oh yum! Your pie lattice is gorgeous too!! I wish I could convince my boyfriend to peel peaches ๐
You did amazing! Especially for your first fruit pie! I’d be surprised if your family didn’t like it. I love making pies. Have you tried blanching peaches? It’s how I “peel” peaches when baking with them. Seriously a life-saver! I actually just did a tutorial on my blog just a few weeks ago on it: https://www.sprinkledwithjules.com/home/2014/7/19/how-to-blanch-peaches
Thanks for the tutorial! Definitely going to try that! Thanks Jules! ๐
What a gorgeous first pie! Peach is my mom’s favorite. I’ll have to make yours for her sometime!
Lindsay this is SUCH a beautiful pie! I feel like pies are so difficult to photograph so props to you. And I am going peach crazy over here, so this is perfect for me! I love the idea of freezing the pie before baking, I’ve never tried that. Thanks for the link on my cheesecake! Have a great weekend Lindsay!
Thanks Karen! Pies are definitely tough!
Welcome to the wild world of Pie Baking!!! Careful, it’s addicting! Or maybe that is just me. I want to bake them all the time but I try to resist because, let’s be honest, who am I going to feed an entire pie to? Yours looks gorgeous! I’d expect no less from a perfectionist like you ๐
Being a teacher, my summer is a kid’s summer, and it’s definitely ending! So sad! Which means, I must make this pie immediately ๐
It is sad! Summers seem to get shorter and shorter! I hope you at least have a great group of kids!
Yummy! I adore peach pie. This one is absolute perfection!
Thanks girl!
I love using my husband as a sous chef too. Anything with peeling or chopping! ๐
This pie is gorgeous. You definitely need to post more of them!
