This incredible Caramel Apple Puppy Chow is full of caramel apple flavor, and it embodies Fall perfectly. I seriously can’t get enough of this puppy chow recipe!
Caramel Apple Puppy Chow
This is my new favorite puppy chow.
I don’t call it my new favorite lightly. I’ve made a number of awesome versions – Strawberries and Cream puppy chow (still the hubs’ favorite), Baileys Irish Cream Puppy Chow, Orange Creamsicle puppy chow and more. But this puppy chow has officially put me in the mood for fall flavors! Bring on the apple and pumpkin!
I brought it with me over the weekend to visit my family. It was a big hit. So hard to stop eating once you get started.
And my grandmother is totally brilliant. As she was devouring it, she asked me it if was on the blog yet. She said she can’t wait to make it and package it cutely and give it to her neighbors for the holidays.
Great idea! How’d she know I’d done the same thing in pictures?! Great minds think alike. 🙂
This would make such a cute and festive little something to give someone. It’d also be perfect to bring to a party or gathering.
And aren’t the boxes the cutest? They are from World Market and come in so many cute colors and patterns. They’re on sale right now, so hurry to get them if you want them. I’ve also seen similar boxes at Michaels.
One of my favorite things about all puppy chow recipes is how easy it is to make. This one is no different.
I tend to like using two different colors of chocolate for a little fun and variation, but I didn’t do that this time, which makes this even easier to make.
How to Make The Best Puppy Chow
You start by melting down your almond bark. You can also use candy melts or white chocolate chips, though not everyone likes working with white chocolate chips because they stay pretty thick while melted. I’ve done it though. In a pinch, it works.
Once your almond bark is melted, add a package of Caramel Frosting Creations flavor mix. How great is that stuff?! Talk about a punch of caramel flavor! If you want a little less, you don’t have to add it all. Totally up to you.
Then coat your rice Chex in the white chocolate mixture. I carefully mix it with a spatula so that I don’t crush the cereal too much.
This recipe is a little different than a typical puppy chow at this point. Instead of powdered sugar, you use a dry cake or muffin mix. I couldn’t find a dry apple cake mix at Publix, so I used this Apple Cinnamon muffin mix from Fiber One. Using dry cake mix is a great way to add additional flavor to puppy chow. Plus, this one’s got added fiber! 😉
Let it dry and you’re ready to go! Share it with your friends or keep it all for yourself. If you want to keep it, I won’t judge. It’s hard to resist!

I LOVE this idea. I’ve seen all your different pupy chow recipes before but this one really excites me. Those flavor creations things are brilliant, and so many options! Never would have thought of adding them to this. AND then the cake mix/muffin mix too. Totally brilliant. I’m going to have to go stand in the baking aisle and dream up some flavor combos!
PS. You should make an entire puppy chow section. 🙂 I’m sure there will be more to come!
Thanks Carrie! I’ll see you in the baking aisle 🙂
