What Apples Are Best For Baking?
The short answer is – it depends!
In most cases, you can use whatever your favorite apple is. I’m partial to the tart flavor of Granny Smith apples but Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Gala apples are all commonly used in baking.
For some recipes, like apple pie, you can use a mix of apple types to give it even more flavor – such as a tart Granny Smith and another sweeter variety. In some recipes, I might specify an apple that I think pairs best with the flavors in the dish.
You have offered a great variety of yummy looking Apple recipes to put on my to do list.
One suggestion though, is initially when you suggest Red Delicious Apples could substitute for Granny Smith, I think you mean GOLDEN Delicious. Red Delicious are best eaten as a fresh apple. They do not have the flavors that stand up to cooking and baking.
Thanks so much for the delicious recipes!
